Fingers Crossed

You all just knew the week the Comet was going to go out of business wasn't destined to be a quiet one, didn't you?

Thoughts and prayers.

  1. What happened to your MBB post?

  2. A summary in the works? Certainly a solid way to go out. As always, great work Bram.

  3. Any chance the effect you and Virginia have had on this situation has made you reconsider?

  4. Good luck of your new endeavors.

  5. TheTruth - No, not a "summary". I edited back out a rather stupid, alarmist mid-day update I had posted. It was a trying day and I trusted and forwarded some shiny information along too quickly. The original is back online below.

Burgher Jon - ABSOLUTELY NOT! :)

  8. Please post a list of needed items once the plane lands: cribs, blnkets, carseats, carriers, sippy cups, formula, wipes, caregivers, cash, whatever.

is meh kinda like feh? Is there a Yinzer Yiddish idiom?

  9. InAg - Though it sounds like the entire County is already mobilized, I'm sure Virginia will provide that very next thing. For my money I bet the #1 thing that will be necessary to secure for them will be loving adoptive parents.

  10. And of course, per Virginia:

Checks can be made payable to “Keystone” and sent to:

    Keystone
    161 Hazelwood Ave.
    Pittsburgh, PA 15207

It is important that you write “BRESMA Orphanage” as the memo on the check.

  11. Great. After reading through your posts Bram, and the Trib and PG articles, I'm left wondering why MBB freelanced rather than hooking up with her colleagues in the legislative branch of the federal government. It just seems logical that our elected representatives in the U.S. House and Senate would have the most influence in an international matter like this, and that MBB's connections could have been put to their best use in the service of those legislators. Like you, I'll assume that politics was not a consideration on either front, so again, why the separate effort?

  12. First off all, for those of you not checking quite as obsessively, there is a welcome update:

Anon 9:31 - I can attest that Buchanan was in touch with Congressman Tim Murphy a lot of the day on Friday. I wouldn't know if there was any interaction up on that level though I hope so. It seems that Dr. Carrasco had involvement on both or we should say all sides of the effort; I know when we heard she'd be on the plane and then read she was "leading" the mission we were comforted. I feel like this is a discussion for another day.

Jamie and Ali and the children are safe. Thank you to everyone so heroically involved.

  15. It says, "Well, MB's husband Eric..."

Nope, different MB. Neat story, though.

  16. Radio chatter made me think of a wise expression. "More gets done when nobody takes the credit."
