RAJA

Forget teh Democrats. Three Republican candidates are now in the race for the office of Allegheny County Executive: accused elder fraud conspirator Councilman Charles P. McCullough, accused Tea Party organizer Patti Weaver, and Mt. Lebanon Ward 1 Commissionner Raja (P-G, Len Barcousky & Trib, Team Effort).

Learn about Raja the same way I did: from May 16, 2007's Pgh Hear & Now, P-G, Dennis Roddy.

  1. He made millions aiding and abetting the outsourcing of American jobs to India and elswhere. He should be ashamed. The GOP should roundly reject him!

  2. Ross - "Aiding and abetting the outsourcing of American jobs to Inida and elsewhere." Boy, a LOT of people do that I bet. How so specifically?

Hmmm -- most likely through his technology company, CEI.

  3. You know, when you think about it we rely constantly on foreign technical, IT and service support in the same way we rely on foreign / immigrant labor to keep the price of a head of lettuce low.

  4. Going back to the Dems, somebody just came by my door running for county council.

  5. @RossRenegade: Something tells me that the Republican voters will indeed "roundly reject him," just not for good reasons.

  6. @ Bram -- Yes, through CEI. I found it hypocritical that he said his priorty was to grow jobs in the County when he has spent his whole life and made a fortune sending good jobs overseas.

    @Felix -- It's Chuck's to lose!

  7. Don't you think he will split at least some of McCullough's South Hills' base? He is best thing that could happen for Weaver.

  8. Felix - I'm not sure "Republican" is really the key descriptor in your analysis (Piyush Amrit "Bobby" Jindal did okay); it may be more precise just to say "Allegheny County." But I take your point.

I don't think it's by any means impossible for someone of Indian descent to succeed in politics around here. It'd help if they were a 5-star political athlete. It'd help if they were a 4-star political athlete. With this field, Raja should get in the door well enough that we can all evaluate his chops.

  9. Unless McCullough has got some kind of super justification he has kept hidden for two years, I'm just not voting for him.

Also, does anybody know who is seeking the Democratic nomination for Fitzgerald's district? I'm trying to figure out if they guy who came to my door last night was somebody with backing or somebody with the basic clipboard & a dream. It doesn't help that I can't remember his name.

  10. U sure it was county and not city council?

Danko is reported to be running for the seat. But a guy? gonna be a big crowd. When rich first won it was in a field of 7 I do believe. Rich came in first, one of my colleagues came in last.

  11. This guy may have been one of your colleagues for all I know. By appearance, he looked like somebody more at home in a seminar than a union hall. I'm fairly certain it was county council because the literature he had mentioned Munhall and Homestead. He didn't give me one of his flyers. I think he was saving them for people who could sign his petition.

  12. wait a sec.. when is Rich resigning? last day for petitions is March 8. Will the seat be on the primary? Council appoints its open seats correct?

  13. Maybe I'm confused. Or maybe this guy is somebody who knows what Rich is doing? He didn't explicitly ask for a signature. He just asked for the registered Democrat of the house by name and left quickly on being informed that nobody was home but me. I was left with what I could read upside down from his clip board.

Barbara Daly Danko is the heir apparent.

  15. Thanks. This was pretty clearly somebody else and I was wondering if there would be two contenders.

  16. It's certainly possible. Fitzgerald's county-council position would be up for reelection this year anyway. My understanding is that Danko will be appointed to replace him for the remainder of this year ... with the regularly scheduled election to determine who holds the seat beginning in 2012.

  17. You're the first google hit for the search: Danko Treehouse Frick.
