I was commenting even moreso to the point of Bartertown, but yes, now that I see it, it helps to see Terry Britten & Graham Lyle's lyrics all spelled out plain in caps. Good show.
Monk, do you have anything for us? Anybody? Joe Mistick would like us all to be meditating on money. He has a pedigree from Mayor Masloff and before her the Caliguiri administration, and has not been anything but harsh on Mayor Ravenstahl.
Yes. An LEED Gold rated, sustainable fracking rig, sited in the middle of Panther Hollow "Lake", with tasteful billboards touting clean energy, as allowed by city council's recent park advertising approval. Don't put it past the Parks Conservancy.
The Panther Hollow Lake is now large fetid cesspool. Gimme the fracking rig and a monthly check to fix up the rest of schenley park and pay for that overpriced sustainable building they built.
Not MH - Maybe the W. Pa. Parks Conservancy has airport-level suitable land somewhere in the County...? To fund remediation on ongoing very bad park spots? Sort of like importing mongooses to take care of your invasive snake problem... But somebody double-check "fetid cesspool."
If Josh Wander can run for mayor and prepare for the end of the world, I can find time to walk through Schenley Park. The lake looked better than I recall, maybe because we're just coming out of winter or maybe because of recent work. Anyway, it didn't smell at all, though the color was such that I wouldn't put a paddle boat in it if I was wearing nice pants. The only cess-related activity was because of all the geese, but there was a very rapid rush of water out the far end and I'd think that must help keep it clean. The inlet side was still way too shallow for any kind of boating.
Somebody went through the lower area of the park and did a bunch of work. I walked clear through and came out at Barlet playground. It looks to me like improved the course of the run and cleared a bunch of trash. The trails are improved also. I knew they were working on the upper trail, but the they also fixed all the bridges and such for the lower trail. It's pretty rugged, but I think it is supposed to be. And though it is a clear case of government interference in the biological marketplace, the Conservancy's policy of picking out and protecting certain trees appears to be paying off. There are some strong, young trees where there used to be just scrub.

That ALL CAPS lyrics cut-and-paste job I posted earlier was a big old clog to the conversation...had to get it outa there.

ReplyDeleteLet's not give energy companies ideas. They might cut gas to the whole city until they're allowed to put a fracking rig inside Phipps or something.

ReplyDeleteIt has to be inside Phipps or nothing. We can't have local laws or property rights constraining fracking.

MH - Thanks for the report. I'm glad the geese find the immediate vicinity to be wholesome. Those are some picky critters.
ReplyDeleteAlmost 1/4 of the lake's surface is now soil. Progress, I think not.
ReplyDeleteIt obviously needs dredging if somebody were going to put the boats back, but nothing close to that much of the surface is soil.
