Jack Wagner, Darlene Harris, Bill Robinson, Wayne Fontana & Jim Ferlo Crash Mayor's Race.

REPORTING: Trib, Bob Bauder.
MORE/LESS: PoliticsPA, Keegan Gibson.
UPDATERRIFIC: City Paper Blogh, Chris Potter.
MONEY: Early Returns, Tim McNulty, click thru to CP

Meanwhile, Luke Ravenstahl's camp is playing political roulette at the table along with police and firefighters' unions and others, and the Democratic Committee concerns itself chiefly with retaining all of its power in government. Terrific.

Pittsburgh deserves this election. But it could still get a little bit sweeter.

  1. Not mentioning any names, but sounding really half-assed about running probably doesn't help convince donors or voters.

  2. MH - Wayne Fontana is not one of those flashy types. He'll build his candidacy on reasonability and concern.

  3. I prefer delusions of grandeur when this close to the vote.

  4. Fontana's supposed interest in running has Fitzgerald's fingerprints all over it. Fontana and Fitz are thick as theives, and Fitz is for Peduto.

Trotting out a third south hills candidate helps Peduto, pulling voters away from Wagner and Lamb. It wasn't 48 hours ago that Fontana's right hand man was claiming publicly that Fontana was supporting Peduto (only to cause the Senator to walk those comments back and claim neutrality). Now Fontana is in himself?

  5. Dude - Oh yeah? Well I think Jim Ferlo is out there to rally the Ravenstahl troops, and pass that energy and momentum on to Darlene Harris when the time is appropriate!

"Thick as thieves," indeed. As though nobody should be caught standing next to the County Executive.

  6. Speaking of county execs, I did my bit for the pour drink tax tonight.

  7. We'd avoid all this gamesmanship and playing with the electorate a la Ferlo, Fontana, Fitzgerald, Harris and Wagner if they were all subject to the same resign to run rule as County Council.

  8. When do you think Luke will take down his campaign website? Here's the most recent post under "What's New?"

    "Mayor Luke Leading on Immigration
    Wednesday February 27, 2013

For the first time in decades, Pittsburgh's population is growing again. Our city has a proud history of welcoming new residents, whether they are American or foreign born, and we must continue that tradition in the 21st century."

Two thoughts: Who the heck advised him that immigration is a Pittsburgh issue? And somebody better start reading the newspaper: there's been a fair amount of relevant local political news since Feb. 27.

  9. @ Mg the who would be the immigrator in Chief, Big Barry " I'll scare the wits outta with my sequester" Obama.he sets immigration policy for all Dems who then walk in lockstep. Wayne Fontana is joke. If Luke's people are looking at Darlene as their savior , their nuts too. A friend who worked in council told me when she arrived in council, it wa s like the Beverley hillbillies had settled on the fifth floor. She'd be the perfect spokesperson for a hip, growing, young town.

  10. We'd better ask for Anon @ 11:14's birth certificate. A native should know when to capitalize words and the difference between "their" and "they're."

  11. @ MH when lost for words attack the person..and whenever possible make your attack trivial.....if you're writing an essay, I would recommend Strunk and White " Elements of Style". The advent of texting, blogging, and spell check has certainly changed acceptable forms of communications. So quit being a phony!

  13. @MH

Way to take a chainsaw to other people's commentary.

    Have you no shame?

  14. Peduto is only increasing the public perception of being self-centered and arrogant by assuming he is now the leader going into the election.

  15. Have you no shame?

I've insulted on person based on clear evidence directly before everybody's eyes. You've insulted several people, once using admitted hear-say, once using a totally ad hominem attack, and once making reference to a hugely discredited bit of political hackery. I am being deliberately and justifiably insulting to you.

  16. MH @12:22 anon @12:14 not same person
My reference to Mr. Fontana was based upon my experience working with him and members of his staff on a regular basis for an advocacy group in the South Hills. My reference Darlene Harris speaks for itself . Have some regular contact with her and her staff and you will come away with the same opinion. Peace

  18. Sorry Bram. I thought it was good without the usual add on.

  19. My every interaction with Harris has suggested to me she has diverse and cosmopolitan interests, and stays modern sufficiently to adapt or relate as she requeires. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Fontana, but his legislative initiatives with regard to property taxes, nonprofits and other items are always responsible and timely.

  20. Mike Lamb knows about Public Works Official covering for employee's doing Side Work on City time. Trouble is Controllers Office employee may be involved...

    ReplyDelete
  21. What's the scoop with the Public Works side jobs? How can you post that without giving details?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like we have A RUMOR: have City employee side-job / secondary-detail distractions spread to the DPW? Would there be any City treasure lost? And is it really a problem, or do a couple of employees some anonymous commentators don't like happen to like build patios for their neighbors? These are questions, not assumptions.

  23. I don't have any unfounded rumors, but I was wondering if somebody here was still working in the Run. I was down the steps from Greenfield Avenue to Alexis this morning and they seem kind of dangerous these days. About 1/4 of the hand rails are rusted so much that they are only attached at one end. The steps themselves are wobbly, but that's been the case for a very long time.

  24. Bram, with all that is going on, why don't you comment?

  25. Anon 4:58 - Hanging back and observing for a sec. New post above.

  26. Personally, I've never had a job in which moonlighting was acceptable, much less encouraged.

Note how I am avoiding the rest of the commentary.
