Are You Ready For Some Football?

My very earliest memories of reading a newspaper are of reading the Post-Gazette's Gene Collier. Yesterday's column "New Orleans is the story, not the Saints" reminded me of my good fortune.

In fact, just browse through the recent history of Collier's prose here. A tasty beverage for the first Comet reader who can identify "the kind of player who wants his arm down the dolphin's throat when the game is on the line."

Funny you should mention Collier's writing. I was just remarking to someone the other day that I loved a line in his Thursday column about the Braves' interest in Mike Gonzalez:

"Wouldn't it be nice, Braves general manager John Schuerholz figured, to drop that 95 mph lefty cheese into the fading souffle that was the Braves' bullpen..."

  2. Correct sir!

If only the P-G didn't so sorely need an ostentatous display of balance on their editorial page, I would be calling for them replace Kelly with Collier.
