City Council Passes Campaign Finance Reform Again

"This working together of the administration and Mr. Peduto I think really gives us a guideline to how we can accomplish very significant things in this city," said Councilman Ricky Burgess. (P-G, Rich Lord)

Sure, if we could manage to hold an election every month, then we'd be set.

  1. Councilwoman Tonya Payne said she's "going to be squeezed" by the legislation, because African Americans and women can't typically raise as much money as white malesWhat the hell is she talking about? This legislation will help African American women who can't raise money.

She really means that she will no longer benefit from "pay to play" donors. These new restrictions will "squeeze" her campaign "war chest".

  3. There is no solution to campaign finance reform. This is all smoke and mirrors and any politician who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

  5. True Pittsburgh campaign reform is NOT as simple as saying the Republicans as the answer. No way. However, if it was stated in another way, more wide, then I'd be okay with it.

    - electing non dems.
    - the other parties
    - breaking one-party rule
    - Rs, Ls, Gs, Is, etc.

But in the end, the real killer is the 'done deal mentality.'

Even today another guy took me aside and said, "Mark, your problem is that you are not a D committee man, yet."

Being something other than being a "D" presents a big problem here. When that ends as a problem, we will have come a long, long way.
