Scrabbling together Monday's post...

It will be one of those fancifully curated link assemblages, and now with those two out of the way, most will be related to other, under-appreciated matters. Does anybody have any special requests?

In the world of political data, Civic Science has been one-upped by Keystone Analytics. Who's next? And what will it indicate?

  1. More undecideds for sure. Lamb would see an endorsement bump, the damage of which would be spread out amongst the remainder. Perhaps more of a dip will be felt by Wagner, owing to the nature of his base overlaps.

  2. Did you see the PG quote from Luke on the time line? He states Huss hadn't told him about the account for days. Luke didn't know why. It's sad really. I said all along the people around Luke did not serve him well. It's a good thing he will not be picking the next chief. He's not such a good judge of character. Huss, Kunka, Doven, Regan,Harper,Burgess...Shame on them.

  3. I'm not at all excited about blanket and vague character aspersions, Anon 5:56, but I'll ask: what on earth is your problem with Solicitor Regan? Since he joined City government he hasn't been sullied by the whiff of any impropriety that I know of, and that's a real feat. And he doesn't get cocky in the press sometimes like some of the others you mentioned.

  4. I don't believe it. Wander has filed his nominating petitions to run for mayor. Cue the "rock-through-the-campaign-office-window" music. I pray he's not going to insist on participating in next Sunday's mayoral forum at Obama/Peabody. Rauterkus will let him, a mockery of the proceedings will ensue, and comparisons of local city governance to Syrian despotism will fly. Hope he at least brings matzoh MREs, you know, in case there's an apocalypse or something.

I await your full-throated defense, Bram.

  5. Anon 9:41 - I don't have a strong opinion on the community forums. Thinning the herd to a reasonable extent is potentially more crucial for tv.

  6. A Monk-worthy reply, Bram.

  7. Is Wander running for the Dem ticket? I've never heard of an inter-party debate for a closed primary like this.

  8. I'm enjoying watching Bill Peduto and his acolytes whine about everyone's money. This guy is the epitome of a cry baby. "I won't run for the endorsement cuz ill get beat! I'll take Jack and Mike to court if they use their campaign money. Wah the polls were bad. First it was just me and mike in the south hills. Now Jack and Chelsea ( I thought you were my friend? You too Khari) are stealing all my support. Why can't Luke run, I know I can beat him. And you Ferlo. I'm the true progressive. You can't steal my thunder. And Jake, Ed Gainey's my man, why you doing me like this ? Wah!"

  9. Not MH - Should we just ignore the campaign finance law? That thing passed city hall unanimously, right?

  10. City ordinances are a dime a dozen...lets see if it carries the weight of state review!

  11. @Not MH

Well, for the sake of a basically equitable democracy not just based on wealth/power, I very much hope the state will value it for its crucial intended purpose. That ordinance could carry crucial weight toward ensuring a fair and far more meritocratic election than any we've seen in living memory.

  12. Wander horned in on at least one pre-primary forum when he ran for city council. Granted, it was home turf (JCC) and there were only two Dem. candidates participating, but since there were no other Republicans running, it didn't make sense except that Wander wanted a platform for his unusual talking points. The Obama/Peabody event this Sunday is being billed as a "Pittsburgh Mayoral Debate", not specifically Democratic. Ask Rauterkus if Wander is insisting on a seat at the table. And don't forget to watch the Republican mayoral hopeful in action

The entire episode is a total hoot--who knew South Squirrel Hill would make such an attractive filming location for the apocalypse?--but it's a little bit difficult to track down online.

  13. Although Rauterkus did post this message to a PG story yesterday, so we'll see if he sticks with D's (BTW, his son, a swim team member, will be moderating the forum):

  14. That prepper show looks great. Now that Cheney is retired, Pittsburgh appears to be the only place where people who own a necktie are expecting the world to end.
